DATA NOTES / SCHEMA v1

A dataset you
can inspect.

We aggregated published menus, nutrition information, and calorie counts from NYC restaurants and nutrition sources, then structured the records and linked them to locations. The goal is to save you the collection and cleanup work when building your app.

The nyc-2026-09-06-v1 release contains 3,729 mapped restaurant locations, 234 menus, and 31,311 menu items. These are the nutrition-covered, mapped subset of a larger NYC restaurant catalog. The package does not contain every restaurant in New York.

Three tables, straightforward joins

restaurants contains NYC CAMIS identifiers, names, addresses, boroughs, coordinates, cuisine, chain assignment, imported inspection grade, website, coverage label, and menu ID.

menus contains the menu ID, source URL, and item count. menu_items contains item names, categories, variants, calories, and available nutrients. Join all three through menu_id. Chain locations share a menu; item counts do not multiply a chain menu by its number of locations.

Formats and units

The ZIP contains a SQLite database, one UTF-8 CSV and JSON file per table, a README, a manifest, and SHA-256 checksums. Calories use kilocalories, nutrients use grams, and sodium uses milligrams. Missing values are null in JSON and SQLite, and empty in CSV. They never represent zero. CSV text that could be interpreted as a spreadsheet formula is prefixed with an apostrophe; JSON and SQLite preserve the original text.

A snapshot, with source dates that vary

The data was exported September 6, 2026 in New York time. Individual sources may be much older. Sources include restaurant pages and nutrition PDFs, third-party nutrition databases, and historical MenuStat records, including 2018. There is no claim that all menus were reverified on the export date.

Menu coverage is not a guarantee that every item has every nutrient. Some mapped locations have nutrition coverage but no linked item-level menu. Menus, recipes, portion sizes, locations, and inspection grades may have changed. Confirm material details with the original source or restaurant.

Provenance and use

Menu source URLs are preserved so you can inspect where the records came from. A URL does not establish accuracy, restaurant endorsement, or unrestricted redistribution rights. The purchase covers this release of the MacroMaps compilation; third-party source rights are not transferred. Review the usage terms and sample for suitability.

Scope of delivery

This purchase includes one versioned release. Future updates, a hosted query API, and a service-level agreement are not included. The export contains restaurant and menu data only; operational logs, customer records, payment information, and credentials are excluded.
